A to Z Schedule

In the late 1990's I became a certified herbalist. My love of herbs continues, regardless of whatever else happens in my life. So for the challenge, I've decided to share one herb per day.

On your mark, get set, write!

Walking

The list of reasons to walk grows with scientific confirmations.

My grandma subscribed to walking. She was so into a nice walk after dinner that it became a family tradition to walk after family meals, including Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
  • Reduce or maintain weight
  • Reduce and manage high blood pressure
  • Strengthens bones
  • Reduce heart disease
  • Reduce risk of osteoporosis
  • Reduce risk of breast and colon cancer

And the pluses
  • More vitamin D
  • Boosts mood
  • Boosts immune function
  • And it just feels good.

Director's View

So you realize that we can upgrade your job description to include everything that you do but then we'd have to open the job and you wouldn't be selected.

Why wouldn't I be selected?

Because I'm trying to help you keep your job. If we have to revise the budget to include all the duties that you complete, we'd have to hire someone new, someone who doesn't need accommodations.

So if I ask for a job description review, I'll not have a job.

You understand perfectly. So I'll ask you again, are you asking for a job audit?

I need my job.

Do you want the review?

I need my job.

So you don't want the review. I'll email the executive director and I'll tell him that this is complete.

Description Change

You've always done these tasks. It's part of your job.

I haven't always done these tasks. It's not part of my job description. You know I'm always happy to help.

Here, look at your job description. (hands paper)

Well, this has my job title but the description has been changed.

What do you mean?

The job description is different. I have a copy of my job description from when I was hired.

What are you talking about?

When I received the offer letter, there was a job description with it. I believe there is a copy in my file.

(Move to the file room)

See the description is in my file and it's different from this. Who modified the description?

There was no modification.

But it's different.

Do you want the job reviewed?

The executive director asked me to wait for the return of the other director. I'm happy to wait until she returns.

Information and more

On several occasions, I was asked to gather information about various similar jobs because my boss was unable to find the information. She said I should make lists of the duties, I complete.  She said that I would be compensated for the job done. It would be nice if they're as fair as they say they'll be, eventually, if I cooperate, as they've asked.

In the interim, the environment has changed. Formerly a fragrance free office, is now filled with fragrance, perfume, cologne, cleaning chemical fumes on a daily/sometimes continuous basis. It's been difficult to repeatedly ask that the intensity of the chemical/fragrances be reduced. I'm repeatedly disregarded, belittled and harassed for allergies.

If it persists, I'll have to ask my doctor for help.

The Day Job

I'm a writer. What that means is that from time to time, I have a day job.

The day job serves it's suppose. I'm happy to help other people with their work as well. But at some point, I realized that the job I was fired to do is basic and through time, they've continued to utilize more of my skills.

Originally a year ago, and again more than six months ago, during a conversation with a department director, she said that jobs are always upgraded. I should go to the my director and if I didn't get an answer I should take it to the executive director because they're always fair. In November/December, I contacted the executive director.

Have patience they said...
